Wouldn’t it be great if we had greater harmony in our relationships especially with the men in our lives? The following brain facts will hopefully help to create a better awareness of understanding.
Brain Facts To Empower
With awareness comes the opportunity to accept what is and allows you to adapt to what isn’t. Equipped with this knowledge, you may also be able to divide responsibilities more effectively. So let’s see:
- Our brain is 10% smaller than men’s, yet we both have the same amount of brain cells. Ours are simply of higher density.
- Due to the high production of estrogen during puberty, we generally mature two years earlier than boys.
- Even from infancy, we are generally more interested in facial expressions, emotional tones of voices, and non-verbal cues.
- The anterior cingulate cortex, the part of the brain that weighs options when making a decision, is larger in us than in men.
- We tend to talk more, too. A recent study shows that women say, on average, 13,000 more words per day than men.
- We have a larger hippocampus and a deeper limbic system, which allows us to feel the full range and depth of the emotional spectrum and are better at controlling emotional reactions.
- We cope better with stress due to the mix of estrogen and oxytocin. Our reaction to stress is to ‘tend and befriend’ vs male’s oxytocin/ testosterone cocktail tends to create ‘fight or flight’ reactions.
- Our natural instincts are rooted in caring, nurturing and creating strong group bonds.
- We are really good at multitasking and men can better focus on one thing at a time.
- We predominantly use both parts of the brain while men mainly use the left, logical side of the brain.
- We excel at languages and verbal skills while men are strong in math and spatial awareness.
- We have a larger, deep limbic system allowing us to be more in touch with our feelings and are better at expressing our emotions.
- This makes us better at connecting with others, but unfortunately, it also means we are more prone to different types of mood swings, including depression.
May these brain facts bring about greater harmony in your relationships and encourage you to recognize the magic that is truly you.
