The Client
A young professional who wanted to grow confidence, income, status and leadership skills.
The Brief
Reaching out via LinkedIn this young woman had started the year with great frustration. She watched as others were overtaking her by being selected for management training and receiving promotions.
She had been in the company for just over two years and despite her efforts to advance her skills, there were things that clearly were holding her back. Feeling stuck and ready to quit her job, she decided to engage a different business coach at first. It did not work out well and after just two sessions, she severed the relationship.
Not one to give up easily, she had been following Conny Millard on LinkedIn and as a final attempt made the connection despite having never spoken to Conny or knowing someone who had worked with her. However, something in the things that Conny was posting regularly really resonated. She decided to send Conny an InMail.
After an in-person discovery meeting, she really hit it off with Conny. The follow-up notes summed up her needs precisely. She wanted to develop her leadership skills, confidence and communication as well as finding more balance. The metrics for a successful outcome were to negotiate a seat at the management table, having a salary increase and taking on leadership responsibilities with the clarity of an authentic, intentional leadership style.
Self-funded, this needed to be a massive return to justify her investment. The first coach had failed her.
Would Conny deliver the value and coach her to thrive in the company? She was ready to find out!
The Work
Goal pursuit is a science and an art. Previous concepts on how to achieve your goals have been filled with gaps. At the Business Sanctuary goal setting and accomplishment are founded in neuroscience and are coupled with a decade of coaching and international corporate experience. ICF accreditation ensures that the standards of practice surpass many other coaches out there. The Executive Coaching Program for leaders and emerging leaders yields amazing results really fast.
This client was clear on her outcomes. She did, however, catch herself feeling very negative with self-limiting beliefs and doubts in her abilities. She found it difficult to speak up in meetings and making her own voice heard. As an introvert, she did not like to speak up and out. Her management appreciated her skill set yet could not see her leadership potential due to her behaviours in meetings and with other team members.
While the client paying for coaching out of her own pocket, Conny suggested to include her manager in liaising with him about her coaching outcomes. Initially reluctant, the client finally agreed. By bringing management into goal planning something amazing happened. It unlocked a new perspective with management. The client’s courage, self-motivation and determination to engage a high-level executive coach proved to them that she was prepared to do what it takes to develop her leadership skills, her communications and develop an authentic leadership style with confidence.
Productivity was also addressed to ensure the client was better organized and more effective working with her natural behavioural style.
The Result
Having Conny as a back pocket tool in your arsenal of professional development weaponry can help you leap and soar in a very short period of time.
This client had only 6x one-on-one coaching sessions. They were scheduled to suit her working hours mostly before or after work. Within the first month, she received a pay increase matching the salary aspirations that she had set at the beginning of the year. She progressed to leading a small team of people and was put in charge of a major project that leveraged her core competencies. The management training she had so wanted and watched others take was offered to her.
She developed a clear plan around each of her goals. Specific leadership skills around conflict resolution and effective communication were developed to provide a framework for easy retrieval, setting her up for the long-term as she practices these new skills and makes them into habits.
She learned about her own authentic leadership style that was to be empowering and building others up giving them the support and tools to thrive and grow. Her confidence levels grew incredibly. With a clear plan, a new salary, a leadership position and more training paid for by the company she finally felt that she was exceeding in her role. There was no more room for negativity or self-doubt.
Instead, she connected with her abilities, her own worth and the incredible person that was locked up inside. And if that was not enough, she made time for self again, filling her cup, knowing that you can only lead strongly and give generously to others when your own cup is full.
